Forest Management Policy

The Company shall maintain a Sustainable Forest Management Systems, meeting Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) performance standards, of monitoring, reviewing and modifying forest management practices leading to continual improvement in sustainable forestry. (more)

Stakeholder Committee

AV Nackawic, as manager of Crown License 8, chairs a Licensee Stakeholder Committee.  The Committee members represent groups that are interested in the forest management of License 8.  AV Nackawic calls meetings several times a year to inform the members about forest management activities and provides an opportunity for members to comment.  (more)

Management Plan Process

AV Nackawic is responsible for the management of approximately 265,000 hectares of forested area, of which 228,000 hectares is New Brunswick Crown land and 37,000 hectares that is Freehold land owned by the company.  The sustainable forest management planning process involves scheduling appropriate harvest and silviculture regimes today in order to preserve values such as timber, wildlife habitat, water quality and biodiversity over the long term. AV Nackawic Woodlands is committed to protecting the environment and managing lands under their control to the highest standards of sustainability for both timber and non-timber values. To validate environmental performance the company has adopted the ISO 14001 standard “Environmental Management System” and to verify forest management practices the company has adopted the Sustainable Forestry Initiative 2005-2009 Standard.
